Global and Local

Global

Church of the Cross is part of an international network of churches known as the Anglican Communion. This network grew out of the missionary expansion of the Church of England over the past 500 years, and now consists of 38 self-governing provinces around the world, in 164 countries, with tens of millions of members. In many places particularly throughout the Global South, the churches of the Anglican Communion are known for their vibrant faith in God and transformational presence within their communities.

More particularly we find our roots in the Rwandan church whose witness to the Lord Jesus in post-genocide Rwanda has played an integral role in the recovery of that nation. From the Rwandan church we have inherited a legacy of courageous witness and costly obedience. The story of our relationship with Rwanda is given in more detail in Bishop Thad Barnum’s excellent book, Never Silent, published in 2008.

Local

We do see ourselves as part of the larger Kingdom community in the city of Boston. We are actively building partnerships with other local churches and ministries that proclaim Jesus as Lord. We strongly believe in the importance of maintaining the unity of the body of Christ across racial and denominational lines.

More broadly, we are a member church in the Northeast Network of the Anglican Mission in the Americas, under the oversight of Bishop Thad Barnum. The churches in this network are committed to supporting one another in mission, fellowship, and prayer.
