From Lucia Pizzo Flaherty
We recently started reading “The Jesus Storybook Bible” to Joan. We’ve only read a few stories so far, but each story seems to end by pointing to Jesus and the work of rescue he would one day perform. Looking at the Bible simplified, broken down for a child, it is easy to see that no story is trivial. No story can be told in isolation. Each story builds into God’s message of reconciliation.
Today’s reading of Colossians 1 similarly reminds me that all of the fragments of my life are not random. The passage affirms:
For in him all things were created… all things have been created through him and for him (verse 16)
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together (verse 17)
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things (verses 19 and 20)
I am not just a thing, but a thing that has been created.
I am not just a created thing, but a thing held together by God.
And I am not just held together, but I am a thing reconciled.
Not just a thing but part of all things.
Lord, help me to recognize my insignificance apart from you; tell your story, the story of the invisible God, through me.
I live in JP with my family.
