Saturday: Psalm 57-58 & Luke 18:31-43

From Amit Bansil

The psalmist asks if our leaders rule righteously and concludes resoundingly that they do not. This is a good reminder in this election season that whatever frustrations we may feel with our current candidates crooked rulers are an ancient phenomena. Why does power corrupt? Perhaps it is because those who most desire power, those who worship it, turn away from god to attain it. Perhaps that is the brilliance of men like Martin Luther King and Gandhi who led while eschewing power. What else is best attained by avoidance?
