Thursday: Psalm 9-11; Deuteronomy 2.1-25; 1 Corinthians 3.1-15

From: Megan Pinckard

It began with two people secluded amid greenery and the newly named; it spread to a family and precious people; it shrunk to twelve and soon to the grungy group in a room, waiting; it blossomed and broke to all flesh of the earth. The more mankind has sinned, the more He’s spread himself thick.

“I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,” said the psalmist, and rightfully so. After forty sunburnt years of anticipation and angst, the Israelites still had their author, father, lord, lover, and lamb: “These forty years the Lord your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.” His people have only lacked inasmuch as they have torn themselves from God. But God—God only grows. By His Spirit we no longer dwell near God, but as “God’s field, God’s building,” He dwells in us—the faces of faces of thousands of Christs, all across the earth. Thank God that his glory is in his giving. Thank God that we get to share in it, and in Him.
